Love Songs and Madrigals
Sunday, 22 April 2018, 2:30 pm at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 10030 Third St., Sidney
With duo pianists Erin Zipper and Sandra Fletcher, and vocal soloists Anna Shill (soprano) and Tasha Farivar (mezzo-soprano), Via Choralis performs selections from Johannes Brahms’ ever-popular Liebeslieder Walzer along with selections from the Renaissance to the present day on the theme of Love. Written in Ländler style, the Liebeslieder (lovesong) Walzes were perhaps influenced by Brahms’ frustrated love for Clara Schumann, wife of the composer Robert Schumann. They are sometimes cheerful, sometimes wistful, but always tuneful. The accompaniment by two players at one piano adds further interest.
Also on the programme will be madrigals and part-songs by Arcadelt, Farmer, Finzi, Lassus, Sullivan, Fairbank and others.
